Q&A: How do I know whether a CPU cooler fan will be compatible?

Question by Will B: How do I know whether a CPU cooler fan will be compatible?
I bought my computer ready built with an AVC CPU cooler fan, unfortunately it has just died on me and I need a replacement. After research I have found that my specific heatsink and fan are no longer in production and I don’t know which cooler will be compatible with my system. I can only describe the cooler as a large cube heatsink with a fan on top, and to mount it to the motherboard it has two metal clips which straddle each side of the fan and heatsink and clip on to a plastic mounting on the motherboard on each corner at the bottom of the heatsink. This may sound complicated but I can hopefully clear up any confusion if you ask.

Graphics whether animated or 3D require a lot of processing which means tehy run hotter trying to run your display of the graphics.
Best cure for this is to buy a top end video card such as nvidia which has more MBs and its own fan on card

Are 3D screensavers that eat up CPU bad for you computer in the long run?

Question by jon: Are 3D screensavers that eat up CPU bad for you computer in the long run?
I downloaded a 3D fish screensaver and it eats up a lot of CPU and makes the fan go nuts. Is this dangerous for my computer in the long run?

yes…. if its a tower the effect will probably be negligible but if its a laptop it can severly shorten the life……

so if you use a screensaver w/ high cpu you have more heat coming off your computer especially in laptops this heat adds up over time….. and although there is no immediate negative effect repeated heating and cooling of the sodder and other parts makes them brittle…. thus more prone to breaking……

all-in-all

I would not use a 3D screensaver, but i really don’t think the difference in teh life of a machine will be noticeable…… so if you just have to have your screensaver keep it….. i keep my monitors on 24/7 no screen saver no sleep……
